Optimal Folate Blend
I. East West Essential's Optimal Folate Blend
We have had concerns about the folic acid some of our patients are taking not being
properly assimilated (absorbed) by their bodies! Optimal Folate Blend provides
our patients with pre-"broken down" Folate to enhance Folate metabalism. Whether
dealing with elevated homocystein levels, recurrent miscarriage, or a familial
risk for neural tube defects or looking to prevent these issues, we feel that it is
essential that our patients are provided with a folic acid that gives them the best possibility assimilation of Folate.
II. Benefits Common to most Folic Acids
Encourages prenatal health
Promotes cardiovascular health
Promotes nervous system and mental function
Promotes detoxification
Promotes breast health
Promotes maintenance of DNA
III. East West Essential's Optimal Folate Blend: Why it is unique
1. It is well accepted that folic acid supplementation should be given preconception to reduce of the risk of neural tube defects. Optimal Folate Blend uses patented, body ready forms of folic acid to increase folic acid bioavailability. The first step to folic acid metabolism is bypassed by providing it in this more advanced form. This is critical for patients with a history of reoccurring pregnancy loss and/or a familial history of neural tube defects. Optimal Folate Blend has added three forms of folic acid in their proprietary blend. This all-inclusive, bio-available blend encourages methylation pathways at various points of folate metabolism, which may better support overall methylation than a single form of folate especially in those patients with genetic variations in folate metabolism. These nutrients are essential to provide the precursor for DNA synthesis and erythrocyte formation. Therefore, Optimal Folate Blend has added 800 mcg of these superior forms of folic acid critical for people whose folate status may be affected thus reducing the risk for miscarriage and/or neural tube defects.
2. In addition, Optimal Folate Blend supplies high levels of vitamin B12, a crucial nutrient conversion of homocysteine to methionine. A deficiency of B12 and/or THF is known to block the methylation pathways for the proper synthesis of DNA and, therefore, the growth and function of all cells in the body. This can also result in elevated homocysteine levels in the patient.
3. Optimal Folate Blend features intrinsic factor, a natural glycoprotein that is necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12. A lack of intrinsic factor in gastric secretions (a substance needed to absorb vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract) can result in B12 deficiency, slowing the methylation process and can cause a pooling of homocysteine. Megaloblastic (pernicious) anemia is a severe example of this and folic acid and B12 supplementation are at times effective treatments.
